Paedophile John Maber admitted 27 abuse charges

A former prison officer from Bushey has been jailed for life for a catalogue of paedophile abuse, including the rape of a four-month-old baby.

John Maber, 47, admitted 27 charges, including distributing indecent images of children over the internet.

At a hearing at St Albans Crown Court, held on Friday and today, a judge heard Maber, from Oundle Avenue, was caught by police after offering to abuse a child over webcam to someone in New Zealand in December.

Law enforcement officers in that country alerted Hertfordshire Constabulary to the conversation and Maber was arrested within hours.

Initially Maber told officers that the offer had been a joke, but police examination of his laptop, iPhone and hard drive revealed he had filmed and photographed years of child sex abuse.

Among the deprived acts Maber recorded were the rape and sexual assault of a small baby, and gaffer-taping the mouth of a child.

Other charges Maber admitted were drugging a child and possessing extreme pornography involving animals.

A search of Maber's online chat logs revealed he had been offering to abuse a child over a webcam for other paedophiles to watch.
